Lake Wylie Marinas and Public Boat Ramps: The Complete List

Which marina has fuel, which ramp has parking at noon, and which ones rent boats. The working list for Lake Wylie's 325 miles of shoreline.

By Windygap Retreat · Updated 2026-10-31

Lake Wylie has about 325 miles of shoreline and no single harbor district. Its marinas and ramps are spread around three counties and two states, each cluster serving a different end of the lake. This page is the working list: the marinas that matter for fuel, slips, and rentals, and the public ramps that matter for launching, with the fees and quirks we could verify. For how to run the lake once you are on it, see the boating guide; for the lake's layout, Lake Wylie basics.

Marina map

Map pins use verified marina locations. Pier 88 Yacht Club is the marina at River Hills, so it carries that pin. Lake Club Marina is shown with its current temporarily closed listing note.

The marinas

Tega Cay Marina (Tega Cay, SC). The south end's full-service stop, at 28000 Marina Drive in a protected cove about 20 minutes from Uptown Charlotte. Covered and open wet slips (published counts run around 210), a fuel dock with 89 octane gasoline, a ship's store with snacks, drinks, and fishing supplies, and a rental fleet of 14 pontoon boats. Its site lists slip rental and boat rental operations, and the marina runs a pump-out service boat for slip holders. If your day is on the southern half of the lake, this is the default base.

Pier 88 Yacht Club (Lake Wylie, SC). The marina at River Hills, on the lake's southeastern shore. It sells 89 octane ethanol-free fuel, rents pontoons, kayaks, and paddleboards, and runs slips and a food and beverage stop (The Galley). One quirk matters: River Hills is a gated community, so access runs on reservations. Its details are at Pier 88 Yacht Club. Book the rental before you drive over.

Lake Wylie Marina (Lake Wylie, SC). Just off the Buster Boyd Bridge area at 310 Blucher Circle, the closest fuel and services to the lake's busiest ramp. Directory listings credit it with 90 in-water slips and 400 dry storage spaces, plus fuel, marine supplies, service, and repair. Dry storage at that scale makes it the practical choice for trailer boaters who are done with ramp lines.

Pier 49 Marina (Lake Wylie, SC). Family-owned since 1989, next to the Buster Boyd Bridge, with around 150 covered and uncovered slips. It is a storage and access marina rather than a rental operation: the place for a kept boat near the Highway 49 corridor.

Harbortowne Marina (Belmont, NC) and Lake Wylie Boat Rentals (Belmont, NC). The north end's cluster. Harbortowne lists about 150 slips and rentals. The Belmont rental outfits on River Drive rent pontoons by the four-hour half day and nine-hour full day, which is the right shape for the upper lake's longer, quieter arms.

Long Cove Marina (Charlotte, NC) and the smaller clubs. Long Cove, on the Charlotte side, lists about 100 slips. Commodore Yacht Club is a private club with 73 slips. River Hills Marina's published count is 226 slips including kayak storage. Lake Club Marina in Rock Hill lists about 117 slips. These are primarily storage for residents and members; visitors will use them rarely, but they explain where the local boats sleep.

Slip pricing is not published in a way we could verify across marinas, and waitlists move. Treat every number above as orientation, and call the marina for current rates and availability.

The public ramps

South Point Access (Belmont, NC). Six ramps at a 68-acre Gaston County park, the north end's main launch, with two fishing piers, a swim beach, and parking built for trailers. Launching is free; the park charges parking in season, $7 per vehicle and $20 per bus, card only.

Allison Creek Park (York, SC). Four ramps inside a 160-acre York County park, open 365 days a year, with a separate kayak and canoe launch, fishing dock, and campgrounds. York County's boating page adds the detail regulars use: night access cards, sold at the park office, allow launching after the park closes. Admission is free for York County residents; non-resident adults pay $8 day use.

Ebenezer Park (Rock Hill, SC). Three ramps at the 26-acre park on the southern shore, next to the beach, fishing pier, and RV campground. A first-choice launch for the lake's south end and a tournament site, which means the lot fills before sunrise on event days.

Buster Boyd Access (Lake Wylie, SC). The free ramp beside the Highway 49 Buster Boyd Bridge, near stores and restaurants, and the lake's most popular fishing-tournament launch. Popular cuts both ways: arrive early or wait.

Nivens Creek (Tega Cay area, SC) and Copperhead Island (Charlotte, NC). The smaller access areas. Nivens Creek serves the lake's southeastern creeks. Copperhead Island, a 14-acre park in the McDowell Nature Preserve area, has launching access that suits smaller boats and paddlers, and a calmer setting than the highway ramps. Both are Duke Energy access areas, part of the six it maintains lake-wide.

Picking a ramp by the trip you are taking

Match the launch to the day. Fishing at first light: Buster Boyd or Ebenezer, the tournament ramps, where the lots are built for trailers and the regulars launch in the dark without drama. On a tournament morning, arrive before the field or well after it. A family boat day on the north end: South Point, where the ramps, piers, beach, and picnic ground sit in one park, so the group that does not want to boat still has a day. A boat day with a camping weekend attached: Allison Creek or Ebenezer, the two ramp parks with campgrounds, where the boat stays minutes from the tent or RV. Paddlers and small boats: Copperhead Island or the Allison Creek kayak launch, where you are not threading a kayak between bass boats at a concrete ramp. The south end with no boat of your own: Tega Cay Marina, rent the pontoon there, and skip ramps entirely.

The pattern behind the list: the Duke Energy access areas are ramps and parking, good ones, while the county parks wrap a ramp inside a full day-use park. If your group includes people who will not be on the water all day, launch at a park. If everyone is fishing, launch at an access area and save the park fees and the crowds.

Fuel, pump-out, and the practical details

Fuel lives at the marinas, not the ramps. Tega Cay and Pier 88 are the reliable fuel docks on the south and southeast; plan a long day from the north end around a mid-lake fuel stop rather than discovering range at dusk. On pump-out: SCDNR counts three marinas with pump-out stations on the lake, and Tega Cay Marina and River Hills are listed as offering 24-hour public pump-out access free of charge. Trailer parking, not ramp lanes, is the binding constraint on summer weekends at every access area; when the lot closes, the ramp closes. Lake levels are managed by Duke Energy and shift with the river system, so shallow ramps and deep boats should check levels before a trip after dry spells.

If you are staying on the lake

Visitors basing at a rental house use this infrastructure differently: a rental pontoon for one day from Tega Cay or Belmont, the nearest ramp for a brought boat, and the house dock for everything else. Windygap Retreat, on the Charlotte side, has a private dock and beach and sleeps 16, so the swimming, kayaking, and evening fishing happen at home and the marinas become a fuel stop and a rental counter rather than the center of the trip.

Plan the rental day when you book direct (direct booking skips the 12 to 15 percent platform fee), and use the fishing guide to pick which end of the lake your boat day should target.
